It is a valuable underwater heritage site, offering the first physical confirmation of the tax grain transport ships previously known only through historical records.  

Technological Features: The ship's most notable structural feature is its 'twin-mast' design. Unlike Goryeo-era ships, which typically had a single central mast, Mado Ship No. 4 was designed with two masts (one forward and one central) to increase sailing speed. Evidence of iron nails used in its construction was also found, providing important clues about the advancements in Joseon shipbuilding technology.  

Further Archaeological Finds: The Mado waters are a treasure trove of ancient ship relics, with five shipwrecks (including the Taean Ship and Mado Ships 1-4) discovered since 2007.
